faq

1.  is your music available to purchase in any retail stores?

no.  it's only available right here in the store section of this website.  i don't think it's right to charge $20 for a cd as some retail stores do.

2.  what about itunes?

no.  i've tried to get my music on itunes three times.  i never received a response.

3.  can i download your music for free so i can put it on my ipod/iphone/ipad/droid/blackberry/etc?

some of my songs are available to download for free.  go to www.reverbnation.com/chloehandler for downloadable mp3s.

4.  i want to download all your music for free.  so how do i do that?

there's a way to download just about everything for free.  i won't tell you how to do it, nor do i condone piracy.  if you want free music bad enough, you'll find a way to download it on your own.

5.  i want to download your music, and i do have money to purchase it.  so where do i download it?

check out www.reverbnation.com/chloehandler for downloads.

6.  how can i purchase an actual cd of your music, chloë?

very simple.  go to the store page on this beautiful website.  each available cd has a PayPal button underneath the album cover thumbnails.  click on the buy now button, and follow the directions on PayPal.  as soon as the order is received from PayPal, you will receive the merchandise in 5-8 business days.  or there are instructions on the store page to do things the old-fashioned way.

7.  i've already purchased a cd from you, chloë.  is there any way i can donate money without purchasing anything?

yes.  on most of the pages on this site, there is a paypal donate button.  it works the same way as the buy now buttons.  and thank you in advance for your donations.

8.  chloë, i noticed that there's a cello sounding instrument in a few of your songs.  is that you playing cello?

yes, that is me playing the cello.  her name is selene, hence the song named after her.

9.  you play cello, too?!?!  how many musical instruments do you play on your albums, chloë?

guitar, bass, drums, shamisen, chloto, ukulele, keyboards, kalimba, native drums, guitellolin, violin, and cello.  twelve instruments total.  i also sequence all the synthesizer sounds and electronic drums.

10.  ok, i'll bite... what is a shamisen/chloto/guitellolin?

a shamisen is often referred to as the "asian banjo".  the shamisen, derived from the okinawan sanshin, literally means "three strings".  the shamisen is played with a large plectrum, called a "bachi", which resembles an ice scraper.  the particular shamisen instrument i play is a homemade creation.  it is acoustic-electric, capable of amplification.

a chloto is another homemade instrument.  the chloto is based on the asian zither instruments, such as the chinese guzheng, vietnamese dan tranh, and the japanese koto.  the chloto has twelve strings, and can be tuned in a wide variety of asian tunings.  it is played with finger picks on the right hand, while the left hand manipulates the strings from the other side of the bridge to create different notes.

a guitellolin is a one-of-a-kind musical instrument that i also built from scratch.  it resembles an electric violin, but it has three guitar strings, and it sounds like a cross between a cello and an electric guitar when bowed.  since it is held like a violin and sounds like a cello and an electric guitar, i decided that this hybrid monster would be aptly named the guitellolin (guitar cello violin = guit-ello-lin).

11.  are you planning on performing live?

yes, i plan to perform live in the future.

12.  i like your music but i can't hear the vocals very well.  any way you could remix the vocal tracks so they're audible?

no.  crank up the volume!  if it's too loud, turn it up even more so you don't have to hear anyone complain!  and if you can't quite make out the lyrics, they're posted on this website on the lyrics page.

13.  i bought one of your cds and hated it.  it sucked.  can you give me my money back?

no.  you suck.  i posted clips of songs on the media page along with music videos.  you had the opportunity to try it before you bought it.  i let you test drive my music.  if you didn't like the music, you shouldn't have bought a cd.

14.  chloë, why do you spell your name with the two dots over the e?

the two dots over the e in my first name is called an "umlaut" or a "diaresis".  i use the mark placed over the e in my name to indicate that the e is pronounced in a separate syllable (as in naïve).  as an added bonus, it looks really cool.

15.  chloë, i think you are awesome, and i love your music.  are you on any social networking sites?

yes, i am awesome, and my music is quite lovable.  yes, i am on facebook, myspace, and twitter.  check out the contact page on this site.

16.  chloë, i'm contemplating a transition from male to female, and i'm curious about the effects of hormone replacement therapy/how to feminize my voice/how to apply makeup, etc., etc.  could i ask you for advice?

don't do it!  just kidding.  write me an email.  my email address is on my contact page.

17.  why can't you use capital letters?  why did you type everything in lower-case letters?

i don't know how to type.  e.e. cummings did it for me.

18.  i heard you were transsexual, chloë.  is that true?

no, not really.  i just like to tell people i am so i can enjoy all the perks and fringe benefits the glbt community has to offer.  i especially enjoy the health insurance coverage, the 401k plan, and the stock options.  the gay agenda newsletter is often fun to read when it comes in the mail, too.

19.  oh, ha ha... very funny.  so what's it like being transsexual?

it sucks.  my family disowned me.  people who i thought were my friends turned their backs on me.  i had to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket for sex reassignment surgery because insurance wouldn't cover it.  i wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  it is by far one of the most difficult things a human being can go through.  some of us get lucky, and breeze through the transition process, with familial support, a network of friends, and a boatload of money.  unfortunately, forty one percent of transsexuals commit suicide.  i was almost a part of that forty one percent.

20.  ok, i have a personal question for you that isn't listed here on your faq page.  how do i contact you?

check out the contact page.  my email address is posted there.  however, please don't contact me to proposition me for sexual purposes, dating, or marriage.  messages pertaining to these purposes will be marked as spam.  i'm not "looking for love" on the internet.  i'm not the type of person who does the whole internet "dating" thing.  i appreciate the flattery, but no thank you.  just be respectful, and i will be respectful in return.  thank you.
